ABOUT THE EVENT
The 2019 Lab Manager Leadership Summit took place in The Research Triangle, North Carolina. The Summit focused on key management, business, safety, and staffing challenges facing today’s lab managers.
The program’s expert speakers provided the critical information and practical advice lab managers need to lead their teams to higher levels of engagement and commitment.
Topics ranged from lab safety and sustainability, to effective communication, to the challenges of managing a scientific staff.
In addition to the valuable information gained from the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to interact with and learn from each other in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
AGENDA OVERVIEW
Day 1 – LAB TOUR
Monday, May 13
Attendees enjoyed a tour of the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory, where analysts at this full-service lab examine all types of evidence related to criminal investigations for North Carolina’s local, state, federal, and military law enforcement agencies.
Day 2 – FULL DAY
Tuesday, May 14
Tuesday’s program covered topics including leadership, lab safety, the latest in “green” laboratory initiatives, maximizing your lab space, and auditing equipment suppliers. There was be ample time between presentations for networking with peers.
Day 3 – HALF DAY
Wednesday, May 15
With the trend toward more interdisciplinary research teams, our first presentation on Wednesday looked at the role lab managers play in keeping people from a variety of backgrounds engaged and focused. The final presentation was our Lab Manager Boot Camp, an interactive event addressing effective communication as a key leadership skill.
Lab Manager is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. ® Program.
