Inspiring Change: Proven Strategies to Empower Women in Science
In today's scientific landscape, promoting an integrational approach of work and life is a critical challenge. The success of Immunic Therapeutics, where women represent 75 percent of the scientists and employees hail from 26 countries, provides valuable insights for other organizations looking to recruit and retain women in scientific leadership roles. Chief scientific officer Hella Kohlhof, PhD, will detail the steps she takes to support women in the workplace.
Attendees will also learn about key initiatives to prioritize work-life balance, equal pay, and other well-received measures, including flexible policies, equal treatment initiatives, and a commitment to breaking gender stereotypes in hiring practices. Case studies highlighting the impact of female role models will provide additional actionable strategies to inspire, replicate success, and foster gender diversity in participants' own organizations. Join us to learn from Hella’s journey and explore practical solutions for creating inclusive and supportive environments for women in scientific leadership roles.

Women in Leadership: Lessons from Evolutionary Biology
The foundation of biology, the study of life, is evolutionary biology. Can evolutionary biology show us what it takes to succeed in a competitive world? I argue, yes! In this session, I’ll explain how evolutionary biology teaches us how to cooperate and lead in the competitive field of science. Along the way, I’ll share my experiences and some words of wisdom from inspiring female leaders in the fields of ecology and evolutionary biology.

Facing Prejudice: How Adversity Helped Shape My Career in Science
In some scientific workplaces, perceptions persist about female scientists. Many women can relate to situations where they haven’t been taken seriously or received criticism because of the way they dress or present themselves.
During this presentation, Magaret Sivapragasam will highlight the importance of combatting biases, how to do so, and how to work toward creating an inclusive environment for all women in science. As Magaret says, “let your personality shine; a little sass never hurts!”
She will share her personal experiences of pursuing a career as an Asian scientist and, more recently, her return to being a student after working in science for 10 years.
